ALAN PETER KOHUT
October 13 to November 14, 2020
Alan presents a series of intriguing closed door images taken over a number of years in various places including Nepal, Tibet, New Zealand, Italy and British Columbia. What is it about a closed door and the mystery of what lies behind the door? Every closed door could tell a story of those that have passed through and other stories imagined by those passing by.
Alan turned his focus to nature photography in 2002 following several years as an amateur photographer. In 2004, he won the Designer’s Choice Award for Monday Magazine’s photography contest and in 2005 he participated in two juried events; Fine Arts 2005 at Sooke, British Columbia and the Sidney Fine Art Show, Sidney British Columbia. In 2006 he participated in a juried group show at Arts Unlimited in Sooke and the Sidney Fine Art Show. His works were accepted for the Sooke Fine Arts Show in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012, winning Honourable Mention Awards in 2009 and 2010. Other juried shows have included artShots in Delta in 2007, the Sidney Fine Art Show in 2007, 2009, 2011 (Honourable Mention), 2012, 2013, 2014, 2018, 2019 and Through The Lens II at the Coast Collective Gallery, Colwood in 2011.
He is the founding director of the new photographers GALLERY in Sidney, which opened in November 2019 to provide opportunities for Canadian and international photographers to show their stuff.
